Questions that Employers ask codeX
After you’ve been for an interview, if an employer decides they want to hire you, they usually phone your references. These are the questions they usually ask. You want codeX to be able to give good positive answers for everything :-)
-
Confirm the candidate’s role at codeX and dates that they were there.
- Would you hire the candidate?
- Is there any reason you would not be allowed to hire / re-hire them?
- Why or why not?
-
What was his or her reason for leaving?
- How well did the candidate progress through the program?
-
Did she or he receive any significant achievements, or were there any times they received warnings?
- What was it like to work with the candidate?
-
What kind of personality do they have, how well do they communicate?
- What kind of duties and responsibilities were assigned to the candidate?
- Did she or he complete them satisfactorily?
-
Did they go above and beyond what was required without being asked?
- What were the candidate’s strengths as an employee?
-
Would you describe him or her a hard worker?
-
Ask the reference to evaluate the employee’s performance in the tasks likely to be assigned in the new position.
- Was the employee punctual?
-
Were there any issues with tardiness (lateness) or absenteeism?
- Did the employee get along well with his or her peers?
- With managers?
-
With customers?
- Is there anything else I should take into consideration before I hire this candidate?
Bonus question: Sometimes employers will ask you in an interview: “When we contact your former manager to verify your employment, what will she or he tell me about your performance?”
